Transfer Switch Program
Crawford Electric is now offering a transfer switch meter base for members using portable generators. The co-op will own, install and maintain this unit. The member will be charged an appropriate service connect fee.
The service connect fee of the transfer switch base is:
100-amp = $350
200-amp = $475
320-amp = $1,150
There are only two safe ways to use a portable generator. One is to plug an appliance directly into the generator, the other is to use a transfer switch to connect to your home.
What does a transfer switch do?
A transfer switch allows you to connect a portable generator to the electrical system in your home or business without any potential back-feed of electricity to the utility lines. If a lineman is working to restore power to utility lines that are believed to be dead and the lines are actually energized due to a back-feed of electricity from an improperly connected generator, the lineman could be seriously injured or possibly killed.
The benefits to you:
Safe and easy connection to your standby generator
Provides power to selected circuits instead of only corded appliances (limited only by the rated output of your generator).
Eliminates potential for damage to your electrical equipment when utility power is restored.
Affordable installed price.
Eliminates potential for injuring or killing linemen through back fed power lines.
