Co-op adds text messaging service

Report your outage with a text message

It's even easier to report your power outage to Crawford Electric. The co-op has launched a new service so that consumer-members can send a text to report their outage and receive outage status updates.

If your cell phone number is on record, you can enroll in outage texting right away. If the phone number is not on record, call the co-op to update your contact information. It may take a business day for the system to be updated before you can enroll in the text messaging service. 

To enroll for outage texting, text  "mypower" to phone number 85700. Don't use the quotes when sending the text. If the cell phone number is on record, the member will receive a return text to confirm the service address. 

Once signed up for outage texting, members may report their outage by sending the message "out" to 85700. To check on the status of an outage, text "status" to the same number. Members who reported the outage via text will receive a text when power has been restored. The system will send that text no matter the time of day.

To cancel the text message service, members can send "mypower stop" to 85700. This will stop all text messages from the co-op, even those that are sent from the co-op about important notifications about service. Members can enroll again at any time.
The co-op does not charge for this feature, but standard text messaging and data rates from your carrier may apply. 

As always, members may still report outages 24/7 by calling 1-800-677-2667. Use the automated line by choosing option 2. If you have information about the cause of the outage or see a dangerous situation, please call to give the information to one of our member service representatives.
