Petition period for board candidates runs May 15 - July 17
One of the seven guiding principles of a cooperative is democratic member control. Consumer-members actively participate in governing the co-op by electing fellow members to represent them on the board of directors. Members interested in serving as a director may begin filing nominating petitions starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 15. The petition period closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
Your locally owned, not-for profit electric cooperative is guided by a nine-person board that meets monthly to set policy and develop long-range goals for the co-op. Members who would like to run for a board position are nominated by petitions signed by at least 15 fellow co-op members. Candidates may run for a position in the district of their principal place of residency. See the district map on our website or contact the co-op for assistance in determining your district. Qualifications for potential board candidates are listed in Bylaw Article IV, Section 4.
Members interested in being placed on the director election ballot will find candidate packets on our website or may request a copy by contacting our office. The packets include a director position description, candidacy overview, the nominating petition form, candidate profile form and board policies.
One board position in each of the three districts is up for election every year. The expiring terms in 2024 are currently held by Justin “Bink” Blankenship (District 1), Doug Murphy (District 2) and Jim Cottrell (District 3).
Directors are elected “at large” by the entire voting membership. Members vote for one candidate in each district to represent the entire membership. Early voting begins Aug. 16 by mail and online. Members will also be able to cast their ballot at the Sept. 18 annual meeting.
For questions about the director election, contact Laura Hengstenberg, the co-op’s manager of external and internal relations at 800-677-2667 ext. 127.
